Athletics; Friday 14th November, 2014

On Friday Jacqui organised an athletic sports afternoon for us.

The following is what the children wrote about this.

Christiana wrote;
I like the relay race because I like running.

Ngametua wrote;
I like the relay because I was running fast and I was winning.




Kayden's story;
At  the Athletic Sports I like the high jump.

Roman's story;
At the athletic Sports I liked throwing the balls the best.

Sienna wrote;
I liked the Athletics because it was fun. We all did it together. The girls race was first and the boys did it next and it was fun.




Carter wrote;
I liked the throwing at the Athletic Sports.

Felix wrote;
I liked the high jump and I liked the long jump. It was fun because at the Athletic Sports I was good at the high jump.

Gardenia's story;
At the Athletic Sports I was doing the relay.





Ruru wrote;
Mum and dad went to the Athletics.

George's story;
At the Athletic Sports I went to the racing.

Ezekiel's story;
At the Athletic Sports I liked the long jump.



Logan wrote;
I liked the long jump.

Ateongo's story;
At the Athletic Sports I liked racing the best.

James wrote;
I liked running and the high jump.



Sculpture Walk; Tuesday 11th November, 2014

We went on a sculpture walk with Nicki (from the Nelson Provincial Museum). We left school at about 11am and we walked along the river and got back to school about 12.45. It was very interesting to see some of the sculptures and hear about them.




Nicki had special permission to get up right next to the sculptures, but we had to stay back.

Roman's story;
We went with Nicki to town to see the sculptures.

Charlotte wrote;
We went with Nicki to look at sculptures. It was fun and we walked a long way.


When we got back to school we made some sculptures of our own.







James wrote;
I made a farm house sculpture.

Felix wrote;
I made a sculpture out of clay and it was fun because mine was a arch.

Clara's story;
I made a tiny ball and it was made out of clay.

Ruby's story;
My tree is made with clay.

Sienna wrote;
We made this sculpture. This is about how I made it. I made it with clay and it was fun. My friends made one, as well.

Carter wrote;
We made a tunnel for our sculpture.

Kaylie wrote;
We  made a sculpture and we made it out of clay.





Cultural Dances

Bernard came on the 28.10.14 and he performed some Pacific, Maori and American Indian dances for the school.

I liked the American Indian hoop dance because is fun and I enjoyed it.

George's story:
Nate put the hoops on his arms and swung around.

Kaylie wrote:
I liked the hoop dancing .

Sienna wrote:
I went to the hall with  my friends and I liked the part when Nate did the hoop dance. I thought that Nate was shy with the hoops.

Christiana wrote:
I liked the show when he (Bernard) told us about his sons.



Gardenia's story:
Bernard is dancing and he has flowers.

Ezekiel's story:
I like the pois spinning around and around.

Cricket Coaching: Week 2, Tuesday - Thursday

Jacqui, our Sports Co-ordinator organised cricket coaching for all classes. Sam was our coach.



Ateongo said, "At cricket I was throwing the ball and then catching it in my hands."

Ruru said, " We did lots of throwing and batting and I loved it."

Carter said, "I was good at catching the ball. I couldn't miss it and I tried to catch it. I threw the ball up in the air and I tried to catch it with one hand."





Alf's Imperial Army WW1 re-enactment: Monday 20th October

On Monday afternoon Major Blunder and his army came to school and talked about the history of World War I. After that the children made swords out of newspaper and had a mock battle. The nurse was able to mend everyone and at the end of the battle all teams shook hands.



Clara said, " One of the army men helped me to make my sword. When I went outside I was cutting legs off."

Seth said, "It was fun when we had a fake war. I was fighting with my sword. I liked the nurse because she made everyone feel better."

Felix said, " It was fun having a fake war because we were allowed to hit people with our  swords. The nurses came and said ' never mind, it's just a scratch'. It was really fun."

Ezekiel said, " I liked making the swords and I got killed. I loved it."





Kayden said, " It was cool to have fights and I loved it. I got killed 10 times and then I was rescued by the nurse."

Logan said, "I was fighting with the soldiers and killed someone."


Stage One Performance - Monday 20th October

Our school performed at the Nelson Art Festival's Stage One.

James said, "I liked it because they (Nelson College for Girls) were really nice and I liked the singing. I also liked it when the band played their music."

Charlotte said, "We went on stage and we sang 5 songs and I like 'Made in New Zealand' the best."

Ngametua said, " At Stage One we were singing and I liked the singing. I liked the Girls College band and I liked them singing the songs. They were different and they were cool."

Kaylie said, " We went onto the stage and the whole school went on the stage. We were at the top end of the street by the Trafalgar church and I had great fun. Mrs Hockley came and some of the parents came as well.




Kayden said, " Stage One was awesome and I loved it and it was very very cool. Nannie and Mum came."

Regan said, " Stage One was a bit scary and we had to go on the stage in front of everyone."

Logan said, " I liked the songs that we sang especially Kiwi Kids."
